The Management Development Project
The Management Development Project Team convened in May 2002 to determine what managers need to be successful at Texas Tech University. The team reviewed the university’s strategic plan, current resources, and external environment, and identified a set of competencies managers need to be effective. Focus groups identified performance gaps that exist for Texas Tech managers; the team analyzed the results to determine the causes for these gaps.
In January 2003, a second project team developed strategies to prepare new managers at Texas Tech, and to provide additional resources for employees who already shoulder management responsibilities.
Team members included representatives from Texas Tech University and Texas Tech University Health Science Center.
