To collect, preserve, document, and interpret the material culture of Lubbock and the South Plains, and its adjacent West Texas regions.

The History Division collects, maintains, and interprets objects relating to the heritage of local and regional environs.

The Division's collection focus includes the Museum's own institutional heritage and the Texas Tech University community, as well as Lubbock and the South Plains. The collection also reflects interests in the political, social, and economic history of West Texas, and its social and ethnic groups. Some of the strongest collections are in medical equipment, firearms, furniture, household items, tools and hardware, and toys and games.
