LUBBOCK The Museum of Texas Tech
University has received a grant from the Institute of Museum and
Library Services through its General Operating Support Program.
The Museum will receive $112,500 over two years.
"This grant amounts to a ringing endorsement of the Museum
of Texas Tech University as a professionally runm, nationally
recognized institution," said Gary Edson, executive director
of the Museum of Texas Tech. "It's an A-plus from the nation's
museum community."
Each applicant for a grant must perform a self-evaluation involving every aspect of its operation. This year, 839 organizations applied for a grant, 179 grants were awarded.
"General Operating Service grants are only given to museums that have the highest approval rating of their peers," said Robert S. Martin, director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services. "A museum must excel in every aspect of its operations, from collections' care to public outreach. This year's recipients are, indeed, among the best museums in the nation."
The grant could be used to enhance several aspects of the Museum of Texas Tech's operations including public programming, publications and information technology.
"We are delighted to have this resounding professional approval and these funds for further improving our service to the Texas Tech and Lubbock communities."
