FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 13, 2003
The Museum of Texas Tech University is pleased to announce that artist and design professor Boris Bally will offer an Exhibition Series presentation titled "Humanufacturing: Bridging Craft & Design" on Sunday, March 2, at 2 PM, in the Museum's Helen DeVitt Jones Auditorium at Fourth Street and Indiana Avenue.
The lecture complements the exhibition Enhancements: Hand-Crafted Functional Objects on display from February 2 to March 18.
Mr. Bally's lecture is a fast-paced, image-rich retrospective of design influences, processes, inspirations, and incremental design changes that have influenced his work over a span of 25 years. The focus of the talk is the connection between design, process, and material diversity that includes the abstract imagery of inspirations, studio environment, and artists that have influenced his work.
Boris Bally was educated in the Intensive Goldsmith Apprenticeship program at Alexander Schaffner Goldschmied at Basel, Switzerland, and the Foundation and Metals Program at the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, PA. He received a BFA in metals at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA. A recipient of numerous awards, Mr. Bally has displayed many of his works in national and international museums and galleries.
Enhancements: Hand-Crafted Functional Objects is a survey of beautiful unique works that fulfill functional requirements. The exhibition features 120 objects by 30 contemporary artists in a wide variety of media, including glass, wood, metal, fiber, paper, leather, basketry, and wax. Some objects are simple and unpretentious, while others are elaborate and ornate. All are able to perform some utilitarian service while also displaying the artistic qualities of beauty, invention, and masterful technique. Three works by Boris Bally are included in the exhibition.
A grant from the Helen Jones Foundation, Inc., makes the public Exhibition Series possible, free of charge.
