Rick Bartow is a contemporary artist who works with a variety of media: charcoal, pastel, paint, prints, and carving. Inspiration for his work comes from his Native American heritage, myths, and the natural landscape. Bartow has had solo and group exhibitions, including a display of his carving, "The Cedar Mill Pole," at the White House in 1997. He is the recipient of several awards and commissions, including the Governor's Arts Awards (Oregon), the Brandywine Visiting Artist Fellowship in Visual Arts, and the Art in Public Places (Washington State Arts Commission).
Barry Lopez is an award-winning author of both
fiction and non-fiction books and essays. Lopez's works integrate
his humanitarian and environmental concerns; his fiction pieces
often focus on intimacy and ethics concerns while non-fiction
works address the relationship between the physical landscape
and human culture. His awards have included the National Book
Award, the Literature Award from the American Academy of Arts
and Letters, the John Burroughs Medal, and the John Hay Award
for 2001.
