Jun Kaneko
Japanese-born in 1942, Jun Kaneko, came to the USA in 1963 to continue his painting studies at Chouinard Institute of Art in Los Angeles, CA. His focus was drawn to sculptural ceramics. A prolific artist who learns by process and through the dialog between maker and object, he achieves an intimacy with his medium where his bold hand can seem invisible. Mainly identified as a sculptor, he also works in glass, textiles, bronze, paper, and canvas. This exhibition is an extensive representation of Kaneko’s work in ceramic sculpture, drawings, and paintings over the past two decades. Circulated by Smith Kramer Travelling Exhibitions, Kansas City, MO.

Married to Adventure: Photographs from the Travels of Martin and Osa Johnson
Special Exhibitions Gallery
Explorers, photographers, filmmakers, naturalists, and authors, Martin and Osa Johnson traveled the world from 1917-1936. They are best remembered for their numerous movies and books about the wildlife and peoples of Africa, Borneo, and the South Seas. The Johnsons popularized camera safaris and are often credited with single-handedly inventing the film genre Americans know and love today: The Wildlife Documentary. This exhibition recounts the adventurous life story of Martin and Osa illustrated by their unprecedented photographic record that today serves as the ultimate documentation of wildernesses that have long since vanished and of world cultures and customs that have ceased to exist. Photographs, maps, indigenous art, film footage and personal memorabilia will showcase the Johnsons lasting contributions to both documentary filmmaking and the historical record of our global heritage. Organized by The Martin and Osa Johnson Safari Museum, Chanute, KS, and circulated by Smith Kramer Travelling Exhibitions, Kansas City, MO.

Destination Anywhere
Gallery 1
For the fifth year, VSA Arts and Volkswagen of America, Inc., have partnered to recognize and showcase young artists with disabilities, ages 16-25, who are living in the United States.  Within this exhibition, a destination involves traversing conceptual distance as evidenced in both time and space.  Symbols work to convey meaning and often become signs for navigation.  The destination may be a specific scene frozen in time, an abstract filled with emotion, or an intimate reflection of self-discovery.  The past, present, and future are explored for theirmeaning and relevance.

MARCH

March 23 - September 7

A Storied West

Gallery 1
This impromtu, combined exhibition is comprised of works from the Diamond M Art Collection of the Museum of TTU.

N.C Wyeth — N.C. Wyeth was one of the USA's premier illustrators and teachers. He illustrated such beloved works as Treasure Island and The Last of the Mohicans. Many of his students at the Brandywine School became some of America's best known illustrators as well.

A Storied West — The histories and mythologies spawned by human settlement of the western United States have been a rich resource for visual artists.  Combining written word with visual image, many of the narrative paintings in this gallery accompanied stories in books, magazines, newspapers or other periodicals of the early 20th century.

Anthony Quinn: A Lifetime of Creating and Collecting Art
Diamond M Gallery
While most of us know the legendary Anthony Quinn (1915-2001) as actor and larger-than-life celebrity, he considered himself at core, an artist. To his immense body of sculpture, painting and drawing he brought a driving, creative spirit, a love for color, texture, form and line, and above all, a good eye. With the wealth and success brought to him by his acting ability, Mr. Quinn amassed a substantial art collection and worked on perfecting his own artistic style. Upon his death in 2001, his collection had grown to over 3,000 items ranging from ancient Roman artifacts to Modern art. Anthony Quinn: A Lifetime of Creating & Collecting Art reveals an international collection of human ability and creativity based on Mr. Quinn's own complex understandings of connoisseurship and art history gathered over his 86 years of life.
