Friendship and Influences Features of Talk
at the Museum of TTU

The Museum of Texas Tech University is pleased to announce that art collector Alitash Kebede will offer a presentation titled "Jacob Lawrence" on Sunday, March 7, at 2:30pm, in the Museum's Helen DeVitt Jones Auditorium at 3301 Fourth Street.

The lecture is presented in conjunction with the exhibition Jacob Lawrence: Three Series of Prints: Genesis, Hiroshima and Toussaint L'Ouverture on display from January 18 to March 14.

Collector Alitash Kebede's interest in art began in her early teens when she first attended an exhibition opening for painter Skunder Boghossian at Addis Ababa University in her native Ethiopia. After attending college in the United States, she began collecting art and now owns more than 100 works from which she has allowed several traveling exhibitions to be drawn. Her collections include the pieces from Jacob Lawrence shown in the exhibition.

In her presentation, Ms. Kebede focuses on her friendship with renowned African-American artist Jacob Lawrence, and her knowledge of the influences on his art. Her remarks add depth and flavor to the excellent series of prints in the exhibition.

A grant from the Helen Jones Foundation, Inc., makes the public Exhibition Series possible, free of charge.
