The Museum of Texas Tech University is pleased to announce the exhibition The Many Splendors of Taiwan, a photographic display opening Sunday, April 17, and continuing through May 29, 2005. Admission to the Museum is free and there is ample free parking in the north and west lots at 3301 4th Street (SE corner of 4th & Indiana Avenue).
As the nation of Taiwan (formerly Formosa) has become a key player in the international community, it has worked to break down the invisible cultural barriers and misconceptions about the “real” Taiwan. It is often said that a photograph is worth a thousand words and a good caption can bring more meaning to any photo. In order to answer questions and dispel misconceptions, the Information Division of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office of the Taiwan Consulate in Houston, Texas, has arranged for a collection of photographs titled The Many Splendors of Taiwan to be available for the Lubbock community.
The main theme of The Many Splendors of Taiwan is the development of the island-nation, and the leading characters are the people who live there. All the elements of life’s drama are documented, revealing the enormous energy of this small island. Through the hard work of generations, the people of Taiwan have transformed their land and created economic and political miracles. They can proudly stand on their own.
Some international visitors have had the chance to come to Taiwan and experience it first]hand. Because “seeing is believing,” the images of Taiwan in this exhibition are taken to cultural centers around the world to allow more people to see for themselves. It is hoped that these photographs will make a lasting impression and find many friends of Taiwan.
