What’s Gone Wrong? — Noted Author Explores the Middle East Puzzle at the Museum of TTU

 

The Museum of Texas Tech University is pleased to invite the public to hear Andrew Wheatcroft’s presentation titled “What’s Gone Wrong: Misunderstanding the East,” in the Helen DeVitt Jones Auditorium on Thursday evening, April 7 at 7pm. His talk will explore the relations between Western and Middle Eastern cultures in keeping with his newest book, Infidels: A History of the Conflict Between Christendom and Islam. Admission is free and ample free parking is available in the north and west lots of the Museum at 3301 4th Street.

Andrew Wheatcroft was educated at St. John’s School, Leatherhead, Christ’s College Cambridge, and the University of Madrid. Author, editor, and world-traveler, Wheatcroft has written many books including The Habsburgs: Embodying Empire and The Ottomans: Dissolving Images. One of the first scholars to use photography in writing the history of the Middle East, he has made art and images a central focus of his latest work, Infidels: A History of the Conflict between Christendom and Islam. During the writing of Infidels, on which he has been working for more than 17 years, he has researched in Austria, Bahrain, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Jordan, Morocco, Spain, Turkey, the UAE, and the US. His earlier books have been translated into Arabic, Greek, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Rumanian, Spanish, and Turkish.

Based in Dumfriesshire, Scotland, Wheatcroft is director of the international postgraduate Centre for Publishing Studies and teaches in the Department of English Studies at the University of Stirling in Scotland, and is a visiting speaker in the Center for Advanced Studies of Museum Science and Heritage Management at the Museum of Texas Tech University.
