Student Organizations

The following organizations all have active student chapters and provide a wealth of opportunities and services at Texas Tech University:

American String Teachers Association
Beginning in 2004, Texas Tech will have a student chapter of the American String Teachers’ Association. The chapter’s function will be to help develop activities with the TTU String Project, interact with the Suzuki teachers of the Lubbock area, and to bring in excellent public school teachers for seminars and workshops. There are currently approximately 20 majors in Orchestra and String Education, making it one of the larger programs in the nation.

Associated Voice Scholars
Associated Voice Scholars of the Texas Tech University School of Music was established in the Fall Semester of 2004. Its purpose is to elevate the standards of Voice education through research and inquiry, as endorsed and supported by the TTU Voice Faculty. Proposed activities of this organization shall include, but are not limited to, guest artist events, lectures, master classes, voice clinics, and vocal music business events. Associated Voice Scholars is an independent organization that operates as a group within the School of Music at Texas Tech University and in the Lubbock community at large.

Kappa Kappa Psi
Kappa Kappa Psi is a fraternal organization that promotes the advancement of college and university bands through dedicated service and support to bands; comprehensive education; leadership opportunities; and recognition; for the benefit of its members and society.

Mu Phi Epsilon
Mu Phi Epsilon is an International Professional Music Fraternity whose purposes are the recognition of scholarship and musicianship and the promotion of friendship. Its aims are the advancement of music throughout the world, the promotion of musicianship and scholarship, loyalty to the Alma Mater, and the development of a true bond of friendship. The Fraternity is composed of Collegiate Chapters, Alumni Chapters and Allied Members.

MENC – Music Educators National Conference
Music allows us to celebrate and preserve our cultural heritages, and also to explore the realms of expression, imagination, and creation resulting in new knowledge. Therefore, every individual should be guaranteed the opportunity to learn music and to share in musical experiences.  The mission of MENC: The National Association for Music Education is to advance music education by encouraging the study and making of music by all.

MTNA – Music Teachers National Association
The MTNA collegiate chapter is the future music teacher's connection with the larger community of committed music professional -- a community committed to inspiring and developing the utmost professionalism in all its members. MTNA collegiate chapters provide a way to fill gaps -- to provide the information and experience necessary to complete an education as both a knowledgeable, inspiring music teacher and a successful entrepreneur.

Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia
The Object of this Fraternity shall be for the development of the best and truest fraternal spirit; the mutual welfare and brotherhood of musical students; the advancement of music in America and a loyalty to the Alma Mater.

Tau Beta Sigma
Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority provides service to collegiate bands, encourages the advancement of women in the band profession, and promotes and enriches an appreciation of band music through recognition, leadership development, and education of its members.
