Auditions for University Choir:
Newcomers (this includes incoming Freshmen and new Upperclassmen): Please email choral.music@ttu.edu for a time slot to audition for the University Choir. Be sure to include your full name, preferred day and hour that you would like to audition, your phone number, and preferred email to contact during the week of auditions. Be prepared to perform a short solo of your choice (bring music for the accompanist), as well the 2 excerpts below. Other parts of the audition include sight reading, vocal sing back, rhythmic audition material, and vocal placement.
Returning Upperclassmen: Professor Bjella requires that all returning upperclassmen audition on August 23rd or 24th if you plan to register for University Choir again for the 2013-2014 school year. Prepare the excerpts below as well as a short solo of your choice. Email choral.music@ttu.edu with your full name, preferred day and hour of audition, your phone number, and preferred email address to contact you during the week of auditions.
Der Geist Hilft - BWV 226 – Johann Sebastian Bach (m. 10- 40)
Beat! Beat! Drums! – Dona Nobis Pacem – Ralph Vaughan Williams(m. 6-27)
Auditions for Women's Chorale, Matador Singers, or The Lubbock Chorale:
Please email choral.music@ttu.edu for a time slot to audition for these choirs. Be sure to include your full name, preferred day and hour that you would like to audition, your phone number, and preferred email address to contact during the week of auditions. Auditions requirements include sight reading, vocal sing backs, rhythmic audition material, and vocal placement. Bring a solo selection of your choir.
Auditions for University Singers:
The University Singers ensemble is a non-auditioned choir. If you are interested in registering for University Singers for the 2013-2014 school year, you do not need to sign up for an audition time. However, our directors ask that you please email choral.music@ttu.edu with your full name, phone number, SATB placement (if known), and your history with choir/singing if any.
What should I choose to sing for my solo?
The vocal selection may be an art song or opera/oratorio aria (English, Italian, German, French, Latin), a sacred solo, or a musical theater (Broadway) piece. For students with less background in solo vocal repertoire, one might also choose an excerpt from a choral piece or a simple, well-known folk/national song or hymn (such as "My Country 'Tis of Thee" or "Amazing Grace"). Choose a piece that best represents your voice while bearing in mind the need for accompaniments that lend themselves to the most immediate success with an unrehearsed pianist.
Should I register before or after auditions?
You may register for your desired ensemble before auditions. If you should make a choral ensemble other than the class that you registered for, Linda Gregston, our undergraduate advisor, will move you to the ensemble class that you need to be in.
