Bruce Wood

Dr. Bruce Wood is an Associate Professor of Music Education at Texas Tech University. Dr. Wood received his Masters and Ph. D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his Bachelor's degree from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. Before coming to Tech, Dr. Wood was the orchestra director and cello instructor at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota for eleven years, the last five of which he served as Chair of the Department of Music. While in St. Cloud, the department enrolled and graduated more string education majors than any other university in the State of Minnesota. Dr. Wood has extensive conducting and teaching experience, including eleven years of public school instruction. During his tenure in the Owatonna, MN schools, the American String Teachers' Association named the district Most Outstanding Program in Minnesota. At Texas Tech, Dr. Wood has received over $40,000 in grants for teaching and research projects, including the Texas Tech String Project, which he directs. Dr. Wood is also the conductor of the Lubbock Youth Symphony. Dr. Wood's research interests are in qualitative methods, and he has been published by the American String Teachers' Journal, Strings Magazine, and GIA publications.
