John Hollins



John S. Hollins serves on the faculty of Texas Tech University as conductor of the University Singers and Men’s Chorus, Music Director of the Graduate Opera Project, vocal coach for the Opera and Music Theatre program, assistant conductor and accompanist of the Lubbock Chorale, and as a collaborative pianist and organist. Through Texas Tech Music Theatre he has also developed a relationship with Cedar Rapids (Iowa) Opera Theatre, serving as music director/conductor for the CROT Young Artist Program and as a vocal coach/accompanist.

Before coming to Lubbock, Dr. Hollins served as Minister of Music and Organist at Highland Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky. He was also the Associate Artistic Director of VOICES of Kentuckiana, a community chorus in Louisville, and a music consultant for the Kentucky Opera Association. His work at KOA included assisting in the implementation of the educational program “Music! Words! Opera!” – facilitating the creation, composition, staging, and production of original operas by area high school students.

Dr. Hollins has performed at both divisional and national conventions of the American Choral Directors Association and served as a Repertoire and Standards Chair for the ACDA Southern Division, planning events for division conventions and presenting workshops at state conventions. He has been the collaborative keyboard artist for numerous university, professional, festival, and All-State choruses, including Coro Favoriti, the Choral Arts Society of Louisville, the Louisville Orchestra Chorus, the Kentucky Opera Chorus, choruses of the University of South Carolina, and the Columbia Philharmonic Chorus.

Dr. Hollins holds the D.M.A. degree in choral conducting, piano performance, and musicology and the M.C.M. degree in organ and piano from Southern Seminary. He holds the B.M. degree in piano pedagogy from the University of South Carolina.
