Kathy McNeil, Coloratura
Soprano, is a versatile performer, having appeared in oratorio, recital
and opera performances throughout the United States. Her operatic
credits include appearances with the Aspen Music Festival, the San
Antonio Symphony, and the Lyric Opera of Dallas. Numbered among her
roles are the character of Marie in La Fille du RÄgiment, Violette in La
Traviata, Roselinda in Die Fledermaus, and the First Lady in Die
ZauberflÜte. In concert, she has performed with symphony orchestras in
Austria, Georgia, Arizona, Tennessee, Colorado, Oklahoma and Texas.
Ms. McNeil has twice been
selected the winner of the Texoma region Young Artist competition of
the National Association of Teachers of Singing, won first place in the
Mobil-Austria Meistersinger competition
in Graz, Austria, was a winner of the Aspen Summer Music Festival vocal
competition, won third place in the San Antonio Opera Guild Competition,
and was a finalist in the WGN vocal competition, and the Merola Opera
auditions.
The quality of her
studio may be measured by the success of her students. Her singers are
performing in opera houses in Germany and Austria, and perform with
orchestras throughout the US; have been accepted in graduate programs
at such prestigious universities as UCLA, Eastman, Indiana University,
and others; participate in summer music festivals such as Brevard, Pine
Mountains, Opera in the Ozarks, and Bel Canto Northwest;
and have been the winner of the Miss Lubbock competition and awarded
best in talent at the Miss Texas pageant.
After receiving a Master
of Music degree in vocal performance at West Texas State University (A &
M), Ms. McNeil joined the music faculty at Hardin-Simmons University.
In May 1998, she was awarded the highest honor a faculty member may
receive at HSU when she was nominated and elected Cullen Professor
for outstanding teaching. She has also served on the music faculty at
Arizona State University.
Ms. McNeil has been on the music faculty at
