Mary Jeanne Van Appledorn



Mary Jeanne van Appledorn holds the prestigious Paul Whitfield Horn Professorship in Music Composition. She earned bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees at the Eastman School of Music, and made her solo piano performance debut at Weill Recital Hall at New York City's Carnegie Hall in 1956. In 1982 she completed studies in computer-synthesized sound techniques at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on a faculty development leave from Texas Tech. She has been on the faculty at Texas Tech since 1950. As a composer, she has won ASCAP Standard Panel Awards from 1980 to 1996. In addition, her compositions are published, performed and recorded internationally. Dr. van Appledorn is listed in Who's Who in Music, Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who in the South and Southwest, World Who's Who of Women, Baker's Biographical Dictionary, Schwann Opus record catalog, and American Keyboard Artists.
