THE MATADOR SINGERS (Men's Chorus)

The Texas Tech University Matador Singers (formerly the Men's Chorus) was originally established in 2000 as a musical outlet for all Tech men who enjoy the camaraderie of choral singing, performing a wide variety of musical styles, including classical works, spirituals, folksongs, barbershop, jazz standards, opera choruses, and spirit songs. Through the fine leadership of former directors Dr. Michael Marcades and Dr. John Hollins, the men developed into a respected School of Music ensemble. In recent years the ensemble served as the opera chorus in the TTU Music Theatre's production of Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, performed at various community and campus events, and was featured at the TTU College of Visual and Performing Arts Gala presentation "A Night on Broadway," at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas.

Now under the direction of Professor Karl Dent; assisted by accompanist, Dr. Sigurd Ogaard, and graduate assistant, Justin Duncan, Matador Singers has expanded its membership to 56 singers, and has renewed its vision to support the University as a fine choral ensemble singing artistically performed arrangements of artistic, accessible and entertaining music. This mission as "singing ambassadors" for the University is gaining success and recognition for this fine organization. Chancellor Kent Hance has recently stated "I am proud of these men" and has acclaimed their contribution as "outstanding."

The Matador Singers has gained substantial recognition at the University and community levels performing in numerous events. Last fall, the Matador Singers performed The National Anthem at the TTU/OSU football game, earning the distinctive honor as the first TTU choral organization to be invited to sing for this level of event.
