VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT MUSICOLOGY POSITION
POSITION/RANK: Full time tenure-track position in Musicology (Classic/Romantic
specialization). Rank of Assistant Professor. Position begins Fall 2008.
QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated excellence in teaching graduate/undergraduate
music history. Record of publication or promise of exceptional scholarly potential in musicology.
Completion of Ph.D. in Musicology with Classical or Romantic specialization by August 2008 required.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach graduate and/or undergraduate music history courses;
advise thesis and dissertation students; engage in scholarly or creative research and publication;
participate in appropriate faculty service; assist in coordinating the music history curriculum. Secondary
specializations desired in: ethnomusicology, specific world-music or popular idioms, music appreciation
teaching, and/or new media and distance-learning technology. Members of US government-recognized minorities
especially encouraged to apply.

POSITION/RANK: Artist/Teacher of Double Bass. A full-time, tenure-track
position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Begins Fall 2008.
QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated success as applied teacher of double bass,
including recruitment and retention of high-quality students; outstanding performance ability and experience,
desire and ability to develop a regional and national profile as a teacher and performer; ability to teach
string related courses and courses in a secondary area of expertise. Masters degree required, doctoral degree
preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Recruit, teach, and retain high–quality undergraduate and
graduate double bass students; perform in appropriate solo and ensemble settings; regional and national

VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT CHORAL MUSIC EDUCATION POSITION
POSITION/RANK: Associate Director of Choral Studies/Choral Music Education.
Rank, tenure, and salary are commensurate with experience. Begins Fall 2008.
QUALIFICATIONS: This position is a critical blend between choral music education
and choral conducting. It is important that the successful candidate be focused on choral music education
as the fundamental mission with substantive investment in the administration of and conducting within the
Choral Department. Evidence of outstanding success as a choral conductor and choral music educator;
demonstrated excellence in secondary school choral music programs; experienced pedagogue in choral music
education and conducting; ability and experience to supervise choral music education student teachers; proven
success in choral program administration related primarily to recruiting and development; doctorate preferred.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach courses in choral music education related to choral
techniques, conducting, and choral methods; Assist the Director of Choral Studies in the daily operation of
a large scale, comprehensive university choral program; Supervise student teachers in choral music education;
Conduct a major university choral ensemble; Administer the summer All-State Choir Camp. Advise theses and
dissertations; serve on committees and other normal faculty service activities; maintain creative/scholarly and
service contributions appropriate for assignment.
