A complete application for a music degree at Texas Tech University has three parts:
- Application to Texas Tech University
- Application to the School of Music (Audition Application)
- An audition for School of Music faculty
Application to the University
Your application to Texas Tech University is
handled by the Office of Admissions and can be easily done online.
General information that applies to all undergraduate degrees, including
housing, financial aid, and campus life, can be found on their website
for prospective students.

Application to the School of Music
In addition to your University application, you
will need to file a separate application to the School of Music. This
application will contain more detailed information about your musical
background and interests and is also available online.
This application
should be submitted concurrently with your university application.
Music Major Scholarship Application
Every audition for admission to the School of Music also serves as an audition for a
music major scholarship. Although there is not a separate scholarship application for
the School of Music, all students must complete the application for a general scholarship
that is available at www.applytexas.org.
A student does not have to be admitted to TTU in order to submit that scholarship
application. The scholarship application may be done as soon as the student has
submitted the admission application and there is not a submission fee. The general
scholarship application deadline for all entering freshmen and entering transfer students
is February 1st of each year.
School of Music Audition
The final step in the application process is an
audition for School of Music faculty. Students are encouraged to play a
live audition for the faculty in Lubbock on one of our scheduled
audition days. If this is not possible, other audition arrangements can
be made through the Coordinator of Admissions and Scholarships, Carin Wanner.
On campus audition days for entrance in Fall 2010 are:
- February 20, 2010
- February 27, 2010
- Private Audition to be scheduled via Coordinator of Admissions and Scholarships
Audition requirements for the various programs can be found here.
During your audition, you will also be given a music theory placement exam.
This exam is for placement purposes only and has no bearing on
acceptance into the school. Information on preparing for this exam can
be found
here.
