University Symphony Orchestra Auditions - Fall 2018

In your email, please provide the following information in order to have your individual audition time scheduled. Each audition will be approximately 6 to 10 minutes in length.

  • Year (freshman, 2nd year Master's, etc.)
  • Degree program (e.g. BM, MM, DMA, PhD)
  • Instrument
  • Anticipated graduation semester & year (e.g. Spring 2020)

AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

For current students, sign up through the link that should have been sent to you. If you are new to the school or the link has not been sent to you contact the orchestra business office at the email provided in the section above.

  1. All students need to prepare a short solo of choice (max. 2 minutes). Please, at the time of your audition advice jury if you would want to be considered for concertmaster or a principal position.

Strings — University String Orchestra

Auditions for the University String Orchestra will be held on Thursday, September 6, 2018 between 7:00p.m. and 8:50p.m. (the String Orchestra's normal rehearsal time), in Room 209.

Please sign up for an audition time at the first String Orchestra rehearsal on Thursday, August 30, 2018.

STRING ORCHESTRA AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Two two-octave or three-octave scales of your choice — preferably one major scale and one minor scale — demonstrating on-string and off-string bowing styles
  • 2-3 minutes of a prepared solo of your choice that best demonstrates your technical proficiency and musicianship
  • Excerpts will be selected from the repertoire that will be read during the first rehearsal on Thursday, August 30.
