Dr. Eric Allen is Assistant Professor of
Music and Assistant Director of Bands at Texas Tech University. His
responsibilities include conducting the Symphonic Band, teaching
undergraduate conducting, and assisting with direction of the
Goin’ Band from Raiderland.
He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in instrumental music
education from Florida State University, and a doctor of musical
arts in conducting from the University of Minnesota, where he
studied with Craig Kirchhoff.
Prior to completing his doctorate, Allen
served as Director of Bands at Sebastian River High School in
Florida for over ten years. His ensembles consistently earned
top honors with performances at the Bands of America National
Concert Band Festival, the Southern Division of the College Band
Directors National Association Conference and the Midwest
Dr. Allen recently contributed to GIA
Publications’ Teaching
Music through Performance in Band- Solos with Band Accompaniment
edition, and his recent research also includes a documentation
of the life, work and musical interpretation of
conductor/composer Joseph Kreines. His recognitions include four
Citations of Excellence from the National Band Association and
being named the 2006 Indian River County (FL) District Teacher
of the Year. In addition to making music, Dr. Allen enjoys
spending time with his wife Emily and children, Audrey and
Brady.
