Welcome to the TTU Trombone Studio website! Please feel free to look over the various postings to get a general idea of the activities and policies of the Studio and Texas Tech University.

My teaching philosophy encourages students to develop a natural approach to playing through the study of music in its absolute/theoretical form and by study of great artists. By developing an understanding of musical language and of the sonic vocabulary of great musicians, students have a clearer understanding of their objectives as performers and educators. When a student develops and activates a clearer musical vision or concept, he simply compares his playing to the ideal playing in their imagination and makes artistic progress based on these comparisons.

We do work on problem solving in the practice room, efficient practice, and proper form as well as assisting students in making equipment decisions based on their musical goals and desires.

We have many activities at Texas Tech for trombonists, including 4 outstanding symphonic bands, a wonderful symphony orchestra, a great jazz department, chamber music, solo study, orchestral excerpt study and, of course, trombone choir.
