Biography

I was born in Rockledge, FL and lived in Virginia and Pennsylvania as a child. I received a BA in Marine Science from Florida Gulf Coast University where I worked mainly with estuarine ecology. From FGCU I went to Florida State University where I received my MS in Biological Oceanography studying deep-sea coral communities along the Northern Gulf of Mexico Continental Slope. Upon graduation from FSU I took a job doing research in the Florida Keys working on a commercial application for an all natural shark repellent on longline swordfish and tuna vessels. Before accepting my position in Dr. Kahl's laboratory I was a fisheries biologist at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. My current research interests are in ecology and human dimensions. My career goal is to achieve a better understanding of our environment and how we use it.
