How do I find out who my faculty advisor is?

How will my faculty advisor help me?
Faculty advisors:
- discuss career plans and choices
- help students formulate a degree plan that is tailored to their interests
- help students decide which concentration is right for them
- help students choose classes each semester so they can get their degree in a timely manner
- track student progress towards successful completion of the degree
TIP: Ask you advisor to help you come up with alternates in case one of the classes you want is full.
What can I do to get the most out of advising?
- come to advising with a list of classes you think you should take the next semester
- have questions? make a list and bring it with you
- talk to your advisor if you are worried about taking a specific course that they suggest
- register in a timely manner so the classes you want are not full

- stick with the course plan you make with your advisor as much as possible
TIP: Don't put off difficult classes that might delay your degree plan and graduation date. Ask for help and use it.
When do I need to see my advisor?
- students should see their advisors every semester so they stay on track with their degree plans
- advising for the Fall and Summer semesters occurs in March and students register in April
- advising for the Spring semester occurs in October and students register in November
When am I assigned a faculty advisor?
Faculty advisors are assigned by our staff typically after students finish their college orientation.
Can I change my faculty advisor?
Yes, students often choose to switch to a different advisor after they make a connection with a professor in a class or choose a concentration. Contact Kay Arellano to make a change.
What else do advisors do?
- help students decide what kind of internship is right for them, supervise the internship, and assign grades in conjunction with mentors (learn more about internships in NRM)
- help students get involved in undergraduate research (learn more about undergraduate research in NRM)
- perform senior audits which make sure that juniors and seniors are on track to graduate. Students can track their own progress by using the TTU degree audit tool
- are available to answer questions and provide help and advice anytime students encounter a barrier to their success in NRM or at TTU
