Hallie I. and Ernest Fish Endowed Scholarship

Established by Hallie I. and Ernest Fish in 1985 to provide undergraduate scholarships based on scholarship, citizenship, and need.

Dr. and Mrs. Fish currently reside in Lubbock, Texas. They came to Texas Tech University in 1973 when Dr. Fish accepted a faculty position in what was then the Department of Park Administration, Landscape Architecture, and Horticulture. In 1993 Dr. Fish joined the Department of Range, Wildlife, and Fisheries Management when his original department underwent a name and organization change to became the Department of Landscape Architecture.  Dr. Fish retired from Texas Tech University as Professor Emeritus in January 2014.

Mrs. Fish initially worked for First Manufactured Homes as a bookkeeper and office manager; later she formed Fish and Company, a financial records and bookkeeping firm. In January 2014 she retired and closed Fish and Company.

The Fish family includes a son, Douglas, his wife Marilyn and their son Sean. Sean is currently (2023) works for Scoggin Dickey Chevrolet as a heavy line automotive technician. Douglas is retired as a Lieutenant from the Lubbock Fire Department and Marilyn is retired as a building construction detailer for M and W Drafting, Inc.

Dr. Fish's background was in forestry and range management with minors in statistics. He was originally hired at Texas Tech University to teach Watershed Management and Aerial Photo Interpretation. As the geo-spatial technologies, GIS and GPS, became popular he also taught those topics as well as an undergraduate course in statistics. At various times he served in a variety of administrative capacities -- interim chairman of both the Park Administration and Landscape Architecture Department and the Range, Wildlife, and Fisheries Department; interim Assistant Dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources; and from 1989 to 2008 he was Chairman of the Department of Range, Wildlife, and Fisheries Management which became the Department of Natural Resources Management in 2006.

The Fish's have always supported scholarship programs at Texas Tech University with annual donations and memorial contributions. In 1985 they established the Hallie I. and Ernest B. Fish Endowed Scholarship to provide undergraduate scholarships based on scholarship, citizenship, and need. The student must have at least a 2.5 GPA. The number and amount awarded annually varies.
