NWI Weekly Lecture Series 2016: Russell Thomasson, TTU GLEAMM

As part of the NWI Weekly Lecture Series 2016, Mr. Russell Thomasson from TTU-Gleam gave insight into this state project.

As part of NWI's Weekly Lecture Series for Spring 2016, Mr. Russell Thomasson (above) gave a lecture on campus giving details concerning the Global Laboratory for Energy Asset Management and Manufacturing (GLEAMM) project.

According to GLEAMM's website, the GLEAMM project combines the research and commercialization expertise of Texas Tech University with the field testing, certification and development expertise of Group NIRE, a for-profit energy development company. GLEAMM was established thanks to a $13 million investment by the State of Texas. Texas Tech in partnership with Group NIRE, will leverage this investment to test, certify, research, develop and support the manufacturing of new electrical grid technologies and next-generation power electronic devices for public and private partners. Much of this testing and certification will take place at the Reese Technology Center, a shared field testing site between Texas Tech and Group NIRE, located just west of Lubbock, Texas. GLEAMM works closely with X-Fab, Texas on silicon carbide semiconductor manufacturing, Monolith Semiconductors on silicon carbide design and National Instruments on smart microgrid and distributed generation technologies and systems.

The website goes on to report that GLEAMM is supported by the largest public-private research and development award in the history of Texas Tech University.

Mr. Thomasson is the Director of Strategic Partnerships in the Office of the Vice-President for Research (OVPR) at Texas Tech University. He serves as President and Board Chairman of GLEAMM, a non-profit corporation and controlling shareholder in Group NIRE, a for-profit energy field testing and commercial developing company.
