NWI Hosts U.S. Forest Service Group for Field Site Tour

A group of visitors from the U. S. Forest Service toured NWI last week.

(Above) - The National Wind Institute was proud to host employees of the U. S. Forest Service when they were in town for a large workshop training for wildfires.

Although West Texas is not famous for its forests, it is famous for its wind energy and its aridity, and Forest Service workers needed to become more familiar with wind turbines - their size, their height - in order to understand how to fight any fires that may occur on one of the many wind arrays in the region.

Many thanks to Keith Lammons, Task Force Coordinator with the Texas A&M Forest Service, for arranging the informative and hands-on tour, and thank you to Jeff Livingston, Assistant Director of Operations at NWI.
