Areas of Concentration
The BGS program will require three areas of concentration from three academic divisions with the approval of the advisor. Each of the three areas must meet the minimum requirements for the minor set by the academic departments. Thus, the total of the three areas must be at least 54 hours. A total of six hours of Writing Intensive (WI) courses are required in any of the areas of concentration and must be from Texas Tech University. Each of the three concentration areas in the B.G.S. degree program will require a minimum of nine hours of Texas Tech University courses. At least six of those hours must be taken at the junior/senior level.

Each of the three concentration areas in the B.G.S. degree program will require a minimum of nine hours of Texas Tech University courses. At least six of those hours must be taken at the junior/senior level.

Areas outside Arts and Sciences
You may select one of these areas in place of History or Psychology.
Only one area outside the College of Arts and Sciences may apply to this program.

Note: The required courses should be taken before the directed electives. Also, not all courses are offered every semester.

Requirements for the areas of concentration through the College of Agricultural Sciences & Natural Resources
  • All prerequisites must be met prior to taking each course.
  • A grade of "C" or higher is required in each course.
  • Areas of concentration must consist of a minimum of 18 credit hours.
  • A maximum number of transfer hours in any of these areas is 9 credit hours.
  • At least 9 credit hours in an area of concentration must consist of upper division courses.
  • Some of the prerequisites may be waived upon consultation and approval by the respective department chair.
