Texas Tech University :: Outreach & Distance Education
Lessons & Projects
You will be assigned an instructor who will grade all course assignments and examinations, provide feedback, and answer any questions about course content. Refer to the Course Guide and assigned materials which contain special requirements for submitting each lesson.
General Information
Make Copies. Make a copy of each assignment before submitting it. We will not give credit for assignments lost in transit.

Bar Codes. You must use the correct bar code labels or information where required. Failure to use the correct bar code could result in delays. The last three digits of your bar code number should match the number of the lesson you are submitting. The accuracy of this number is important for recording receipt of your lesson grade.

Submitting Your First Lesson. When submitting your first lesson, please include a brief essay about yourself and your interests on a separate sheet of paper. Also include in your essay your reason for taking the course, your deadline for completion, and any special concerns you have.

Submit Only One Lesson at a Time. We recommend that you submit assignments one at a time so that you have the benefit of your instructor's feedback before completing the next assignment. Some instructors require that you submit one lesson at a time, so read your instructions carefully.

Complete Lessons. Only completed lessons will be graded. The instructor reserves the right to return a lesson suggesting or requiring it be resubmitted.

TTUISD Students. Indicate you are a TTUISD student on all paperwork you submit to our office.

Communicate with Your Instructor. You may submit questions or comments to ODE by fax (806.742.7222) or by e-mail. Put instructor's name on subject line and indicate you have a question. TTUISD students may also fax 806.742.7288.
ODE Course Portal Information
Whether you're enrolled in online, CD-ROM, or print-based courses, the Outreach & Distance Education (ODE) Course Portal easily lets you check course grades, request examinations, verify course deadlines, and more. Just follow the simple access instructions below.

If you enrolled in one or more online courses, the ODE Course Portal serves as you "starting gate" for access to online courses. Do not attempt to access online courses without first visiting the ODE Course Portal.

Accessing the ODE Course Portal. Go to www.courseportal.ode.ttu.edu. Log in on the right using your first name, last name, and ODE Password (if you are college student and already have an eRaider username and password, you may use those instead by clicking on the eRaider "Sign In" button). If you do not have an ODE Password or you lost your ODE Password, you may request one, or click the red "here" link under the "Login" button. Your first name, last name, and e-mail address must match your enrollment information exactly. After correctly entering your first name, last name, and e-mail address, your ODE Password will be e-mailed to you, usually within an hour. Then you can log in.

Online Course Students Be sure to click the "Read Important Course Information" icon for each online course before accessing your course(s). Some courses require additional usernames and passwords for access - see below for more specific information.
  • WebCT courses (TH A 2304, EDIT 2318, MATH 2345, PSY 3304, and PSY 1300) require an eRaider username and password to access course content. New college students receive eRaider "access codes" via standard mail from TTU Information Technology and ODE within 10 working days or enrollment (if you do not receive an access code within 10 working days of enrollment, call 806.742.HELP or toll-free 877.484.3573 and tell the HelpDeck rep you need an access code). After you have a working eRaider username, notify your instructor via e-mail of your desire to begin work so he/she can add you to WebCT's roster. For your instructor's e-mail address, consult the materials you received from the ODE Bookstore. NOTE: Grades for WebCT courses do not report to the ODE Course Portal; WebCT has its own gradebook.
  • TOPIC/ICON courses (ENGL 1301 and ENGL 1302) require a TOPIC/ICON username and password to access course content. Read your ODE TOPIC/ICON instructions carefully. NOTE: Grades for TOPIC/ICON courses do not report to the ODE Course Portal; TOPIC/ICON has its own gradebook.
  • CourseCompass courses (ENGL 2311 and ENGL 3366) require a CourseCompass username and password to access course content. This information was supplied to you by ODE when you enrolled. NOTE: Grades for CourseCompass courses do not report to the ODE Course Portal; CourseCompass has its own gradebook.
Methods of Submission and Grading Time
Fax and e-mail services are not available for certain courses. Submitting assignments via e-mail or fax may reduce transit time but will not shorten grading time. Beginning the day your lesson assignment is received in our office, instructors have five working days to evaluate your lesson. The graded lesson will then be returned by regular mail so allow for mail time. You will be able to see your grade, however, on the Course Portal the day it is graded by the instructor. You must pay postage for lesson assignments mailed from outside the contiguous United States; however, there is no additional fee for e-mail or faxing assignments.

Submit Lessons by Mail. Staple a completed Lesson Cover Sheet to each assignment. Use the postage-paid envelopes and bar codes when submitting your assignments via mail. Lesson Cover Sheets must be prepared neatly and legibly. The address label must be placed in the proper area on the cover sheet in order to process your lesson. If the address information is not correct on your bar code label, fill in the accurate address information on the Lesson Cover Sheet.

Submit Lessons by Fax. Fax the lesson and completed lesson cover sheet to 806.742.7222. TTUISD students fax to 806.742.7288. Lessons submitted via fax are returned via mail.

Submit Lessons by E-mail. When submitting lessons via e-mail, take the information requested below directly from your bar code. If you submit your lessons via e-mail, you will receive your lesson grade via e-mail. Some courses have lessons that cannot be submitted via e-mail. Check your course guide to find out if your lessons cannot be submitted via e-mail.

It is important to submit your e-mailed lessons to the proper address. The subject line of the e-mail contains all of the necessary information to route your lesson to your instructor for grading. If the subject line is not completed properly, the lesson will be returned for correction.

Note: Some online courses allow you to submit assignments within a course system itself (e.g., WebCT, Course Compass, ICON, and Moodle). Read your assignment instructions carefully.

Resubmitting Lessons
You may resubmit lessons only if your instructor has indicated on your Lesson Cover Sheet or in your e-mail graded lesson that you may or must do so. Failure to resubmit lessons marked "must resubmit" on the Lesson Cover Sheet could cause a delay in your examination being sent or result in a zero for the lesson grade. Since lessons could count as much as 75% of your grade, failing lessons could cause a failing grade for the course.
Projects
Special Instructions for Elementary Students. There are no examinations for kindergarten students; however, there are required projects denoted in the curriculum guides. To submit these kindergarten projects, place the Unit Test Cover Sheet found in Tab 10 of the curriculum guides and the projects in the large envelopes that are provided. Complete the information on the outside of the envelope, add the appropriate bar code, and send the envelopes to TTUISD.

For elementary students in grades 1-5, submit the required unit examinations in language arts, math, science, and social studies, and the required projects in science and social studies in the large envelope that is provided. If the project cannot fit in the envelope, please submit a video or pictures with a narrative of how the project was completed. Staple a completed Unit Test Cover Sheet on top of the written test. Complete the required information on the back of the envelope and mail to TTUISD. The Unit Test Cover Sheet can be found in Tab 10 of the curriculum guides.
