College of
Architecture

A portfolio submittal is required for all College of Architecture scholarships with the exception of scholarships for entering freshmen. All applicants must be currently enrolled in the college. Entering freshmen, transfer, and graduate students must submit a separate application through the college's Academic Programs Office. Unless otherwise specified, all scholarships listed below are administered by the Scholarship Committee in the college. Amount awarded generally varies from $200-$2,500 based on annual interest accrued on invested endowments. Application deadline for all architecture scholarships is January 24.

Abilene Chapter AIA
Scholarship Fund

For a deserving (by ability and need) upper-level undergraduate from the Abilene area enrolled in one of the seven schools of architecture in Texas.

Architecture Graduate Tuition
Scholarship

For a post-professional or first-professional Master of Architecture student. A portfolio and/or creative work is required. Financial need is a consideration. Awardees are required to maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA.

Nolan E. Barrick Scholarship

For a graduate student intending to practice architecture who possesses superior design skills and who achieves a 3.0 GPA.

Captain Harley Barrick
Memorial Fellowship

Available to students enrolled in one of the college's travel-study programs. A written proposal of intended study must be submitted to the Scholarship Committee.

Charles L. Birdwell
Memorial Scholarship

For a student going into third year design majoring in architecture with a 3.0 or better GPA. Financial need will be considered. Renewable for two years if 3.0 GPA is maintained.

James A. Burran and Walter L. Calvert--Lubbock Chapter AIA
Memorial Scholarship

For a sophomore architecture major entering junior year of design. Candidates must have a 3.0 GPA.

Carl and Mary Childers Scholarship

For a student who will be entering the second year of studies following the successful completion of the first year of the professional architecture degree program

Dallas CSI Foundation Scholarship

Awarded to a third year student from the Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex area who is majoring in architecture, construction science and technology, or architectural engineering. Application is made through the college, final selection is made by the CSI Foundation Directors.

William C. Early Scholarship

For a student enrolled in thesis in spring of academic year of scholarship.

Margie Firenza Scholarship

Awarded to a student pursuing a professional degree in architecture who has demonstrated an outstanding degree of service commitment within the college.

Justin P. Haire Memorial
Scholarship

For a third, fourth, or fifth year student enrolled in the professional architectural degree program. Minimum 3.0 GPA in design courses is required and financial need considered.

Jeryl J. Jordan Memorial
Scholarship

For a full-time design student in the fourth year design studio who will complete thesis level of study the following academic year. Recipients will demonstrate exceptional abilities in the area of architectural design as well as the highest standards of ethical, moral, and professional conduct. Preference will be given to applicants with a 3.0 cumulative GPA and 3.0 in design.

R. Turner and Panze Kimmel

Scholarship

Awarded to third, fourth, or fifth year student enrolled in the professional architectural degree program. Financial need is considered.

Jerry Kirkwood Memorial
Scholarship

For a third, fourth, or fifth year female architecture design major with a 3.0 GPA. One or more scholarships are awarded annually. Applications available through the college.

Established by Evelyn Atkinson in recognition of Jerry Kirkwood, the sixth woman to receive her B.Arch. degree at Texas Tech and who served as campus architect for construction of new facilities from 1966 until her retirement in 1983. Scholarship is administered by Soroptimist International of Lubbock.

Lubbock Chapter of the American Institute of Architects Scholarship

For a full-time student who has completed the sophomore year in architecture with a minimum overall 3.0 GPA. Proposed recipients must present current or past semester work including construction drawings, if any. Final selection will be accomplished by interviews. Four to six awarded.

Administered by Lubbock Chapter AIA.

Mahaley--Thompson Scholarship

For a third, fourth, or fifth year architecture student who has completed the first two years of studies at Texas Tech (transfer students are not eligible). Award based on creativity and aesthetic awareness demonstrated through a portfolio review of work from design and freehand drawing studios.

Company, Inc. Scholarship

For a student in the structures specialization or dual degree option.

Albert R. Moffitt Jr. and Doris E. Moffitt Scholarship

For a graduate student in the Master of Architecture program who has selected a specialty of architecture, historic restoration and preservation, or computer aided design. Selection based on portfolio, undergraduate and graduate GPA, financial need, GRE test scores, and personal interview.

Mike Moss-AIA Lubbock Chapter Scholarship

Awarded to entering freshman architecture majors. Selection is competitive and based on SAT1 scores, high school GPA, and class ranking.

Administered by the Texas Tech Financial Aid Office.

Albert Payne Memorial Scholarship in Historic Preservation

For an undergraduate or graduate history and/or historic preservation option major in their third year of design or above. Minimum GPA 3.0. Recipient will do a preservation project at the Ranching Heritage Center and provide a report to the donor.

George Tso Chih Peng Urban Studies Endowed Scholarship

For a graduate student with a major or minor in urban design, land use planning, urban studies, and community development.

Willard B. Robinson
Memorial Scholarship

For a graduate or upper-level undergraduate enrolled in the architectural history or architectural preservation curricula. Recipient must have at least one year of architectural education remaining and have a minimum GPA of 3.0. The award will be based upon the student's interest in history, preservation, and adaptive use. The scholarship will be used for travel and/or preservation related projects. A presentation or publication exhibiting the study experience gained through the scholarship will be provided at the end of the project.

James R. Sailor Memorial
Scholarship

For a senior architecture student who exhibits exceptional ability and creativity in architecture design. Applicant must be a full-time student pursuing a Bachelor of Architecture design option and must be eligible to complete the thesis level of study during the academic year of the award. A 3.0 cumulative GPA and a 3.0 GPA in design courses is required.

TAF-Association Administrators and Consultants, Inc., Scholarship

For a deserving student enrolled in one of the seven schools of architecture in Texas with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Available to Texas Tech on a rotating basis.

TAF-Binswanger Glass Company
Scholarship

For a talented and deserving student in the second, third, fourth, or fifth years. A minimum 3.0 GPA is required. Scholarship is rotated among the Texas schools of architecture.

TAF-Dennis Cowan Memorial
Scholarship

For a deserving student enrolled in the college.

TAF-Dean's Entering Freshman Scholarship

For entering freshman architecture majors with an SAT1 score of at least 1000 or an ACT score of at least 24. Five awarded.

TAF-Hugh Cunningham Grant Fund

For a deserving student enrolled in the professional degree program.

TAF-El Paso Chapter AIA
Scholarship

Available to a third year or higher student enrolled in one of the seven Texas architecture schools or colleges, whose home is in the El Paso Chapter area. Student nominated on basis of outstanding architectural talent primarily, with financial need as a secondary criterion.

TAF-Grayson Gill Memorial
Scholarship

For a student enrolled in one of the seven schools of architecture in Texas with a minimum GPA of 3.0. Available to Texas Tech on a rotating basis.

TAF-George Harrell II Scholarship

For a needy and deserving student with a minimum GPA of 3.0 enrolled in one of the seven schools of architecture in Texas. Available to Texas Tech on a rotating basis.

TAF-Rae Jacobs Memorial
Scholarship

For a student enrolled in one of the seven schools of architecture in Texas who demonstrates special interest in interior architectural design and has a minimum GPA of 3.0. Available to Texas Tech on a rotating basis.

TAF-Jesse H. Jones Scholarship

For a student completing the last academic year of study for the professional degree in architecture. Statement of Career Intent, one example of the applicant's collegiate work, and a photograph are required. Available at each of the Texas schools of architecture.

TAF-Lubbock Chapter AIA
Memorial Scholarship for
Graduate Studies

Available to a student in the final year of study in the graduate program in architecture. Selection will be based upon candidate's portfolio, undergraduate and graduate GPA, financial need, GRE scores, and personal interview.

TAF-A. S. Megert Memorial
Scholarship

For an architectural student who has completed the third year of design studio and is pursuing a degree in either the structures option or the architecture and civil engineering dual option. Minimum 3.0 GPA.

TAF-Northeast Texas Chapter AIA
Scholarship

For a junior or above architecture major in one of the seven Texas schools of architecture who resides in the Northeast Texas Chapter area.

TAF-San Antonio Conservation Society Foundation Scholarship Honoring Brooks Martin, FAIA

For an outstanding student with at least one year of architectural education remaining, who shows an interest in historical architecture, preservation, and adaptive reuse. The fellowship may be used for historically related travel or to support any other preservation-related project.

TAF-Southwest Terrazzo
Association, Inc. Scholarship

For a student in final year of study for a professional degree in architecture. Minimum 3.0 GPA is required and financial need considered.

TAF-Fay H. Spencer Memorial Scholarship in Architecture

For a female student with a minimum GPA of 3.0 who is a candidate for a professional degree in architecture. Available to Texas Tech on a rotating basis.

TAF-Paul and Katie Stein
Scholarship

For a student enrolled in one of the graduate level schools of architecture in Texas who has high potential in the field of architecture, a minimum GPA of 3.0, and financial need. Awarded to Texas Tech on a rotating basis.

TAF-Waco Chapter AIA
Scholarship Fund

For a third, fourth, or fifth year student enrolled at one of the seven schools of architecture in Texas. A minimum 3.0 GPA, demonstrated financial need, and Waco Chapter area residency are required.

TAF--West Texas Chapter AIA
Scholarship

For a junior or above architecture major in one of the seven Texas schools of architecture who resides in the West Texas Chapter area. Minimum 3.0 GPA is required and financial need considered.

TAF-Wichita Falls Chapter AIA Scholarship

For a third-year (or higher) undergraduate student who is a U.S. citizen of exceptional talent and moral character whose home is in the Wichita Falls Chapter area.

TAF-Wilson-Doche Scholarship

For an outstanding student completing the third year design studio in architecture. Awarded every other year.

Established by James A. Wilson and Jim Doche of Amarillo.

Ken Tollin Endowed Scholarship

For a junior or senior in architecture design studio who demonstrates financial need and extraordinary artistic and/or technical talent. All applicants must be in the West Texas Chapter AIA geographical area (Midland, Odessa, San Angelo, Big Spring). Minimum 3.0 GPA.

West Texas Chapter AIA
Scholarship

For a student going into third year design. A 3.0 GPA or better is required. Recipient is expected to attend awards ceremony in Odessa. All applicants must live in the West Texas AIA geographical area (Midland, Odessa, Big Spring, San Angelo).
