About Us

What is Institutional Effectiveness?

At Texas Tech University, institutional effectiveness is the continuous process of maintaining, assessing, and improving the whole university toward administrative and academic excellence. This process is made possible through the constant interactions between the following departments:

Who We Are

At the Office of Planning and Assessment (OPA), we advocate for the action of ongoing meaningful assessment in all academic degree programs at Texas Tech University. Meaningful assessment not only tells us what and how well our students are learning but how we can improve student learning. Learning is a life-long process; thus it is imperative that faculty and students are provided with the optimal strategies necessary to engage in meaningful learning for their students to achieve success in their desired fields after they leave the university. We also value the notion of transparency with student learning data. Conducting, reporting, and using quality assessment data relies on integrity, judgement, and trust between the university, students, and parents. With these values and principles, we have designed our website based on the 2011 Transparency Framework established by the National Institutes of Learning Outcomes Assessment (NILOA) so that all audiences—faculty, administrators, parents, and students—can view the status of the university from a student learning perspective.
