OP 61.24: Service Vehicle Parking

PURPOSE: The purpose of this Operating Policy/Procedure (OP) is to establish regulations to control parking of service vehicles University and contractor/vendor vehicles.
REVIEW: This OP will be reviewed November 1 of each year by the Director of Traffic and Parking Services. Recommendations for revision will be forwarded through administrative channels to the Vice President for Operations by November 15.
POLICY/PROCEDURE
1. Policy
b. Vendor vehicles and delivery vehicles will be directed to the appropriate service area or drive by entry station personnel.
c. Movement of heavy equipment and supplies to buildings will be accomplished from the street or service drive if possible. If not possible, the individual responsible for moving, loading, hauling, etc., will contact the Grounds Maintenance Department to obtain routing information to ensure protection of lawns, sidewalks, bricked areas, ramps, sprinkler systems, etc.
d. Maintenance or service of any facility which cannot be accomplished from the street or service drive will be coordinated through the Grounds Maintenance Department to ensure adequate protection of surrounding facilities.
e. Parking partially in the street and partially on a walk/curb is prohibited. Vehicles will be parked parallel and adjacent to the curb as per city ordinance if street parking is necessary.
f. Damage resulting from vehicles traversing lawns, sidewalks, bricked areas, etc., will be repaired by Grounds Maintenance. All repair costs will be charged to the University department or vendor/ contractor responsible for such damage if circumstances warrant.
g. Blocking of doorways, sidewalks, handicap access, and fire lanes is prohibited.
2. University Vehicle Parking
All employees operating University vehicles will be instructed to park only in the following areas which are listed in priority order:

3. Vendor Parking
b. Vendor vehicles found to be blocking a street will be ticketed and towed by the University Police.
4. Contractor Parking
b. Contractor vehicles will display a dash pass, issued by the Traffic and Parking Coordinator, on the dash of each vehicle while parked on University property.
