Family Weekend 2012 Schedule of Events

Friday, September 14

Family Weekend Central: Noon - 5:30pm • Student Union Building
This is your destination for kicking off Family Weekend and your place to pick up preordered official Family Weekend t-shirts and tailgate passes, meet other parents, find out what’s happening over the weekend, and get your questions answered.

Take a Campus Tour: 9:00am, 2:00pm, 3:00pm • Visitor's Center (9:00am) and Student Union Bulding (2:00pm from outside the Ballroom and 3:00pm from Copy/Mail)
Take a guided walking tour of Texas Tech's campus. FREE

Use the Student Rec Center
All Family Weekend attendees may use the Student Rec center during Family Weekend. A pass will be provided via email the week before Family Weekend or you may pick one up at Family Weekend Central. FREE

Docs on Display: 2:00 - 4:00pm • Student Wellness Center
Want to learn more about your student's health care providers on campus? Join the physicians at Texas Tech's Student Wellness Center for a meet and greet. Refreshments provided. FREE

Taste of Lubbock: 6:00pm - 9:00pm • Lubbock Memorial Civic Center, 1501 Mac Davis Lane
Taste of Lubbock is an annual dinner showcasing some of the Hub City's finest restaurants and introducing students and their parents to Lubbock's diverse eating choices. This event is presented by the Texas Tech Parents Association with proceeds supporting the TTPA Scholarship Endowment. Live and silent auction, cash bar (with proper ID). Tickets: $20 each, all-you-can-eat (Tech students will need tickets). Register for Family Weekend and order Taste of Lubbock tickets


Saturday, September 15

Red Raider Pancake Breakfast: 8:30am - 10:00am • Student Union Ballroom
Everyone’s invited to start the day off right with delicious pancakes hot off the griddle! This come-and-go event includes a Red Raider Wakeup by Tech’s Spirit Squads. All tickets must be pre-ordered at www.texastechparents.org by Friday, September 7th.
Menu: Pancakes, Scrambled Eggs, Sausage Patties, Crisp Bacon, Country Style Potatoes, Fruit, Orange Juice, and Coffee.
Buffet Tickets: $10 each (Tech students will need tickets). Register for Family Weekend and order Pancake Breakfast tickets

TTPA General Membership Meeting: 10:00am • Student Union Ballroom
Come meet other parents, share ideas, and offer feedback. Shortly following the general meeting is the much anticipated Tuition Draw!

Parent and Family Tailgate (4 hours prior to game time) • R1 Parking Lot (west of Chemistry Building) • Click here to see the lot and entry station on a map.

Come join us for a Parent and Family Tailgate Party! Bring your chairs, snacks, stereos, TVs, footballs, and games and enjoy the hours leading up to kickoff. Set up the most impressive tailgate area for your family or group, and be recognized in our Rowdy Raider Family Tailgating competition!

$20 Passes for parking. PASSES ARE SOLD OUT as of August 30, 2012. Walking through the tailgate area and visiting other families is FREE. Tailgate passes required to park in lot. There is a two (2) space limit per family to enable us to provide a space for as many parents and families as possible. We will be unable to reserve specific spaces. 42nd Annual Arts & Crafts Festival: 9:00am - 6:00pm • Lubbock Garden & Arts Center, 4215 University Ave.
Fun for the entire family! This annual event held in September includes arts & crafts, exhibits, kid’s area, demonstrations, entertainment, and food. Free Parking and Trolley service from Clapp Swimming Pool and Hodges Center parking lots.Click here for more information.

Cactus Theater Presents: Dooley’s Back at Belle’s: 7:30pm, Friday and Saturday • Cactus Theatre, 1812 Buddy Holly Ave.
Set in Belle’s Saloon in Dry Gulch, Texas, in the late 1800’s, Tom Dooley, an outlaw and bank robber, has been released from jail and been through rehabilitation becoming the town preacher. Everyone loves the change he’s been through but the town deputy is not convinced and later, with no witnesses, Dooley confirms the deputy’s suspicions. In fact, the deputy learns Dooley plans to rob and then burn down Belle’s Saloon, leaving her destitute. Dooley’s plan solidifies and Belle’s place is threatened.. that is, until Dooley makes one tiny mistake.

Lubbock Community Theatre Presents: Noises Off: 8:00pm, Friday and Saturday, 2:00pm Sunday • Firehouse Theatre, 511 Ave. K
Originating in London’s West end, this hilariously sexy farce gives audiences a look at the behind-the-scenes shenanigans of a tattered troupe of actors and the play they are desperately trying to stage. Set in 1970’s Britain, Noises Off will whisk you backstage to witness the flubbed lines, false entrances, prat falls, falling trousers, farcical doors and love triangles, culminating on one fateful night as these antics boil over mid-performance!

Texas Tech University Southwest Collections:
North of the TTU Library, open Friday 9-5 and Saturday 9-1. The Southwest Collection has displays showing some of the unique items housed in its collections as well as a temporary exhibit about the College Baseball Hall of Fame.

Museum of Texas Tech University:
Open Monday - Saturday from 10am until 5pm and Sunday from 1pm to 5pm. The Museum of TTU (MoTTU) is a major general museum with collections in the arts, humanities, and the sciences numbering over 5 million objects. Temporary and permanent exhibitions in the social and natural sciences, and visual arts are presented in the main building on both the first and second floors. The Museum Shop offers items for purchase that relate to the mission of the Museum. The Museum is the working laboratory for the Museum Science Program, which trains graduate students in the philosophies, theories, and practices of the museum profession and awards a Master of Arts degree. Lubbock Lake Landmark:
Open Friday and Saturday 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Lubbock Lake is located in a meander of an ancient valley, Yellowhouse Draw, near ancient springs. For thousands of years, people on the Southern High Plains used the water resources in the draw until those resources went dry in the early 1930s. Visitors can take nature walks, take guided or self-guided tours, visit the Learning Center and view exhibits. Buddy Holly Center:
Open Tuesday thru Saturday 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Exhibitions and programs at the Center reflect the diverse cultural characteristics of the region and encourage interaction between artists and the community. The Center collects, preserves and interprets artifacts relevant to Lubbock's most famous native son, Buddy Holly, as well as to other performing artists and musicians of West Texas. Silent Wings Museum:
Open Tuesday thru Saturday 10:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. The Silent Wings Museum preserves and promotes the history of the World War II military glider program by creating an environment for collecting, documenting, interpreting and exhibiting artifacts and information for public education and enjoyment. Visitors can take guided or self-guided tours, visit the Time-line, Hangar, Combat Galleries, and Adams Library & Reading Room. In the theater, visitors can also enjoy a fifteen-minute program, Silent Wings: The Story of the World War II Glider Program.
