Move In –Weekend Aloha Party

Flip Flops

The first weekend the residence halls open each Fall semester is a great time of year. Many students move in that first weekend to begin their journey at Texas Tech. New friends are being made, independence will begin to grow, and the start of a new chapter as a college student is euphoric for students. For the parents, though, moving boxes, frustration about the lack of help by your student, the perspiration, and the emotions that come along with moving your student to college can all be overwhelming. The Aloha Party is held on campus and is a fun event where you can relax and unwind. Food and drinks are provided. This is an excellent opportunity to network with other Tech Parents going through the same experiences you are. Watch for information about the next Aloha Party in the summer of 2010.

Family Weekend

Family Weekend 2009 was October 2-3, 2009 (the Family Weekend 2010 dates will be posted here in the Spring 2010 semester). Click here for more info.

Spring Scholarship and Awards Breakfast

Graduate

Each spring, the Texas Tech Parents Association meets to celebrate the achievements of Texas Tech faculty and students. Four faculty awards are given: The Distinguished Leadership Award, the Spencer A. Wells Award for Creativity in Teaching, the Hemphill-Wells New Faculty Award, and the Barnie E. Rushing Distinguished Research Award. One student from each of the colleges and the Schools of Law, Nursing, and Allied Health is awarded the Student Academic Citizenship Award. During this breakfast, the Texas Tech Parents Association also honors its current scholarship recipients. Following the breakfast, Tech Parents members meet to select the next year’s scholarship recipients. The Spring Scholarship and Awards Breakfast date for 2010 is TBA. Raider Relief Fund

With rising college tuition and fees, more students at Texas Tech are experiencing financial crises. Currently, financial aid and scholarship awards cover tuition and fees with less remaining over for living and other educational expenses. The Raider Relief Fund is dedicated to helping students experiencing a financial crisis remain enrolled at Texas Tech to complete their education. This pilot program was launched in Spring 2008 and is a collaborative effort between the Ombudsman for Students, Student Government Association, the Office of Parent and Family Relations, and the Texas Tech Parents Association. Students interested in this program should first visit with the Ombudsman for Students in the Student Union, Room 237, or 742-4791.
