 Strive for Honor Week is April 4th-8th

Strive for Honor Week is April 4th - 8th. There will be activities each day of the week for students to participate in, including movies, bone marrow drive, Raiders Who Rock reception, free t-shirts, and more.

 Summer I Paying-The-Bill checklist

Is your student taking classes during the first Summer Session? Make sure your student is on track by sharing this checklist with him or her:

  • Make sure my student account is in good standing with Student Business Services and all University holds have been cleared by April 1
  • Register for Summer classes Early registration begins April 1
  • Review and accept my Financial Aid - Eligible students will be awarded automatically AFTER they have enrolled for Summer courses (www.raiderlink.ttu.edu click on View and Accept Financial Aid)
  • Pay my account in full or enroll in an Emergency Payment plan (www.raiderlink.ttu.edu choose the correct campus link under Make a Payment)  Spring 2011 due date is May 27  HSC/LAW/TTU dual-enrolled students must pay each institution's term separately
  • Give my parent or bill payer authorization to receive notifications via email and view/pay my bill online (http://www.depts.ttu.edu/studentbusinessservices/eBill-payment/auser.php)
  • Make sure my parent or bill payer knows where to go to view/pay my bill (https://ebill.tosm.ttu.edu/tsa/web/login.jsp)
  • Sign up for My Direct Deposit to get my refund faster - Summer I 2011 refunds begin May 24 (https://banapps.texastech.edu/itis/ar_mydirectdeposit)
  • Buy books - Book loans available at sbsbookloans.ttu.edu (Law students must apply in person in room 333-I of West Hall)
  • Go to Class - First day of class Summer I 2011 is June 1

 From massages to mountain biking, Rec Sports offers many services to students

April will fly by quickly for your student with lots of papers and tests. One great stress relief is a massage. You can purchase a gift certificate for your student for an hour massage by a licensed massage therapist in the Fitness/Wellness Center of the Rec Center. It's convenient and easy. Cost is $40 per hour. We will mail the gift certificate to your student and (s)he then makes an appointment at his/her convenience. Major credit cards accepted. Cal (806) 742-3828. Outdoor trips are another way to relax and enjoy a weekend. Trip costs include transportation, food, gear and trip leaders.  Lynda.com features online video tutorials

What can students do when they need to learn new software? The Texas Tech University Library offers patrons access to Lynda.com, an online video-tutorial library featuring software from Adobe, Apple, Microsoft and more that allows users to learn the latest tools and techniques in business, digital media, design and development. Users can choose from more than 40,000 online video tutorials to learn about digital photography, Web design and development, motion graphics, Excel and much, much more.

Free access to the Lynda.com all-you-can-learn online software training library is available from any public computer in the Library or the Architecture Library. Patrons in the main Library also may access Lynda.com from their own laptop within the building or from their iPhone. No log-in is necessary.

A subscription of this nature would normally cost $250 and now it's free for patrons at the Library, allowing them to learn at their own pace, Library wide.

 Senior recognition ads now available in The Daily Toreador

Family members and friends now have the opportunity to purchase congratulatory ads for publication in special graduation editions of the Texas Tech student newspaper, The Daily Toreador.

"Parents now can honor their Red Raider in their own personalized way," said Dawn Zuerker, associate director for Student Media. "Through our special recognition ads you can tell the world just how proud you are of your graduate, using your own words and photos. It's a really fun way for friends and families to spotlight their graduate as they finish their college years at Texas Tech."

The Honor Your Red Raider editions will be published on May 5 to recognize spring and anticipated summer graduates. Five ad sizes are available, with prices beginning at $75. Visit www.dailytoreador.com, call 806-742-3384 or e-mail dawn.zuerker@ttu.edu.

 April 2011 academic and event calendar

April 1, Friday
Last day for graduate degree candidates to submit to the Graduate School the final draft of thesis/dissertation. First day for summer/fall advance registration for currently enrolled students (continues through April 18). Applicable Payment Plan due date - Required payment must be received by the due date or the account will incur late fees.

April 2, Saturday
Texas Tech Parents Association Spring Scholarship Breakfast, General Membership Meeting, and Board Meeting. (See information in Texas Tech Parents Association section for more information)

April 15, Friday
Last day to remove grades of I, PR, or CR in the Graduate School. This does not apply to the PR/CR received on a previous thesis or dissertation enrollment.

April 18, Monday
Last day of advance registration.

April 19, Tuesday
Last day for master's non-thesis comprehensive examinations.
Graduate School official reports due on final comprehensive examinations and on Interdisciplinary Portfolio results for the master's degree (non-thesis students).
Open registration begins.
Last day to transfer between colleges.

April 25, Monday
No classes. University employees on duty.

April 26, Tuesday
Last day for graduate degree candidates to submit to the Graduate School final corrected PDF copy of thesis/dissertation.

April 27 - May 3, Wednesday - Tuesday
Period of no examinations except for makeup exams or scheduled lab exams.

April 28, Thursday
Last day to withdraw from the university.

April 29, Friday
Last day for undergraduate degree candidates to remove grades of I and PR and to complete final examinations in correspondence courses.

 Is your student looking for work next summer? Parent and Family Relations is hiring!

Is your student looking for work this summer? He or she can work for Parent and Family Relations!

If your student is staying in Lubbock this summer and hoping to work on campus, Parent and Family Relations is hiring. We are hiring student assistants to help with the parent portion of Red Raider Orientation. Students can pick up an application in our office (Room 201, 2nd floor of the Student Union Building). Rate of pay will be minimum wage of $7.25/hour and roughly and average of 20-25 hours/week. Duties will predominantly include assisting with summer Red Raider Orientation and focus on helping check in/check out parents and families, meet and greet guests, attend receptions, assist in presentation room setup, and other administrative duties.  Tech Parents general membership and board meetings scheduled for April 2nd

Tech Parents General Membership meeting:

Tech Parents will host the general membership meeting directly following the Saturday, April 2nd Scholarship Breakfast, Merket Alumni Center. The meeting will begin at approximately 10:30am. All parents are invited to attend. The meeting will feature an update on Tech Parents activities and programs, future initiatives, and volunteer opportunities.

Tech Parents Executive Officers and Board of Directors meeting:

Tech Parents Executive Officers and Board of Directors will meet following the general membership meeting on Saturday, April 2nd, Merket Alumni Center. The meeting will begin at approximately 11:00am. If you are interested in serving as a board member, please attend the meeting.

 Tech Parents thanks its spring break bus trip chaperones

The Texas Tech Parents Association would like to give a big "Thank you!" to the chaperones who helped make our Spring Break Bus Trip a success. Our chaperones were Susan Armanovs, Danny Vasquez, Egwu and Nwakaego Nkama, Carolyn Ortega, and Enna Post. They helped to get 150 Texas Tech students safely home for Spring Break and back to Lubbock for classes.
