Save the Date for Family Weekend 2011

Family Weekend 2011 will be Friday, September 23-Saturday, September 24, 2011. A full schedule of fun events for the whole family is being planned, including the Texas Tech vs. Nevada football game. Football and event tickets will go on sale at www.parent.ttu.edu in June 2011. Hotel rooms in Lubbock fill up quickly for Family Weekend, so make your reservations early. Sibling Weekend Scheduled For February 25-26
|

Registration is open for Sibling Weekend 2011! This is a fun, educational, and spirit-filled weekend for Tech students and their siblings between the ages of 8-15. Sibling Weekend 2011 is held on the Tech campus and is focused on Texas Tech students and their little brothers or sisters. All participants engage in a range of fun activities throughout the weekend. The schedule has been set and is geared to create an experience for all participants that is truly unique and special. We hope those siblings attending will create even stronger bonds with their brother or sister who is at Tech and get a sense of what it's like to be a Red Raider. The price has been set at $45.00 per participant. This price includes all meals over the weekend, admission to the women's basketball game vs. Oklahoma State University on February 26th, an official Sibling Weekend t-shirt, a Double T nylon drawstring backpack, and more! The event promises to be a truly memorable one for those attending. Mark your calendars for February 25-26, 2011. See the full schedule, additional details and the registration form here. Form 1098T Information
|
|
Texas Tech University has contracted with Pearson Government Solutions, Inc. to provide you with your Form 1098-T. Texas Tech University cannot determine if you qualify for a tax credit or any allowable tuition and fees deduction. The financial data provided is to assist you in computing amounts that may be eligible for the Hope or Lifetime Learning Tax Credits or tuition and fees deduction. Students and parents should obtain IRS publication 970 Tax Benefits for Higher Education or contact their personal tax advisor for assistance. The IRS website for obtaining forms and publications is http://www.irs.gov or you can call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040. Please note Box 2 on the 1098-T form shows the total amounts BILLED for qualified tuition and related expenses less any related reductions in charges for the 2009 calendar year (total amount "BILLED" not payments received). If Box 6 on the 1098-T form is checked, the amount in Box 2 includes amounts for an academic period beginning January - March, 2010. Red Raider Orientation Student Employment Information Sessions
|
If your student is looking for summer employment, tell him or her to attend one of the Red Raider Orientation information sessions. Information about pay and hours will be given at the sessions. Red Raider Orientation 2011 is looking for Student Counselors to lead over 7,500 new students and their families during Summer 2011. Information sessions are available so you can find out more and ask questions about being a part of this exciting opportunity. Each session lasts about 30 minutes and you only need to attend a single information session.

The Texas Tech Office of Annual Giving is Hiring for Spring Positions
|

If your student needs a job for the spring semester, let him or her know about this opportunity on campus. Students can apply online at: http://ttu.thecallingcenter.com/ Position includes contacting alumni, parents, & friends of the university to update demographic information, reconnect them with the university, and drive fundraising efforts for TTU. The minimum required shifts would be 3 shifts per week, which equals about 12 hours per week. One shift must be a Sunday or Friday shift. Our shifts are Monday through Friday from 5:30pm - 9:30pm and we have two shifts on Sunday. The first from 1:00pm - 5:00pm and the second from 5:30 - 9:30pm. Starting base wage is $8.00 per hour and there are bonuses that you will be eligible for along with tuition assistance for the semester. After bonuses and tuition assistance many employees make between $9-$10 per hour. Position also includes: You must show proof of age of 17 years or older. If you are here on a F-1 Visa, you must be eligible to work on an off-campus job. This job is not part of the Texas Tech University System. If you are unsure, check with your international advisor.

Tech Parents Scholarship Application Link Online

Parents and family members, forward this link to your student so he or she can fill out the Tech Parents 2011-2012 Scholarship Application: http://www.parent.ttu.edu/scholarship.php All applications will be submitted online and are due by 5:00 p.m. on February 1, 2011. There are scholarships available for currently enrolled Texas Tech and Texas Tech Health Sciences Center students, transfer students, and entering freshmen. There are 57 scholarships available, and criteria for each of them vary. Scholarship recipients will be selected by the Texas Tech Parents Association Scholarship Committee. Students can apply now for 2011-2012 Texas Tech University scholarships at www.scholarships.ttu.edu. Just click "How to Apply" and choose the "Current Student Scholarship Application". This application will get students considered for academic and need based scholarships. Your student's college or department is probably using this application too. Tech Parents members are needed to serve on the Tech Parents Scholarship Committee. The Scholarship Committee will meet Saturday, February 26th (11am - 2pm) on campus to select recipients for the Texas Tech Parents Association scholarships. This is a great way to volunteer your time to help worthy Texas Tech students and their families. The Texas Tech Parents Association is pleased to announce the kickoff of three new Tech Parents Chapters! Local chapters help parents and families connect with one another. Involvement with a Tech Parents Chapter in your local area will provide you with the opportunity to support your student, network with others, and engage with Texas Tech University. Meetings and social gatherings are held on a recurring basis to keep you involved with others and informed of local events happening that involve Texas Tech. It is free to be involved in a local chapter and a great way to spread the good news about Texas Tech to others in your area.
