How to Avoid Citations

We at University Parking Services do not like to issue citations. Here we have compiled some tips for anyone parking on the Texas Tech campus. Following these simple guidelines will help ensure that you do not get a ticket while parking on this campus.

The Basics

Locations

  • Only park in zone or space indicated on the permit. If you are visiting the campus, please park in the indicated visitor lots (and pay to park where necessary).

Signs

  • Parking is controlled by signage. Because there is more than one type of parking space in a lot, it is necessary to note the signage in the area. In each lot, there can be many different signs restricting parking throughout the entire day, including reserved until 11pm or 24-hour parking, handicapped spaces, etc.

Time

  • Parking anywhere on the Tech campus from 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday thru Friday requires a valid permit. Some lots require a permit until 8:00 p.m. Please note the signs in the area that indicate what type of permit is required. Parking in residence hall lots is reserved 24 hours daily starting at 7:30am Monday straight through to 5:30pm Friday.

The Rules

No Parking

  • Because services are on call 24 hours a day to assist campus students, personnel, and buildings, service vehicle parking is reserved 24 hours daily. Bus stops are no parking zones, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Bus stops also serve as staging areas for emergency vehicles.

Common Citations Issued

  • Violation 14: No Valid Permit - $25
issued when parking in a location without any valid up to date permit whatsoever.
  • Violation 12: Area Reserved - $25
issued when parking in an area reserved faculty or staff lot without the proper permit for that lot.
  • Violation 16: Handicap Violation - $200
issued when parking in a handicap spot; you do not want to get this ticket!
  • Violation 5: No Parking Zone - $25
issued when parking in a no parking zone, this could be indicated on the curb or at any location not surrounded on three sides by a line or curb. Absence of signage does not indicate parking is permitted. Parking on campus is different than in many cities. No parking zones are not always marked as such.
