The SI Program at Texas Tech is based upon the SI Program created at the University of Missouri Kansas City.
Supplemental Instruction sessions are free weekly peer-led review sessions for students in historically difficult courses. Professor-recommended SI Leaders will help you take the information given in the lecture and the textbook and put it together in a way that you can learn it more efficiently utilizing activities and worksheets to help with difficult concepts.
Research shows that students who attend SI sessions regularly average one half to one full letter grade higher than their classmates who choose not to attend. Supplemental Instruction at Texas Tech strives to attain the following learning outcomes for students who regularly attend SI sessions:
- Students will acquire content specific learning techniques that will increase their success in the course.
- Students will develop study strategies that are transferable to other courses.
SI sessions start the second week of classes. Each SI Leader will set up 2 or 3 review sessions a week at times based on student input. The SI Leader will announce the session times and locations during class and the schedule will be posted online at Click Here for Current SI Schedule.
For the Spring 2011 semester, SI will be offered with the following classes:
