How To Save and Use Spreadsheets
You must have Microsoft Excel to save and use the spreadsheets on this page.
To save a spreadsheet, click on the link and use Excel's "save as" feature from the file menu.
The spreadsheets on this page are password protected. Even if you don't know the password, you can still save the files to your computer. However, you must have the password to enter data or make changes. Contact the office if you've forgotten the password.
Grading
You can track your grades in a traditional grade book, on the computer, or in any other way you choose, so long as you maintain the grade entry for each student on the XL instructor log in website . For instructions on how to enter grades into the grade website click on the "?" after you log in.

To use the Microsoft Excel grading spreadsheet:
- from Excel's "Tools" menu, click on "Protection," then on "Unprotect Sheet"--you must then enter the password to unprotect the workbook
- magnify the spreadsheet, as needed, to enter grades
- enter student names and class information
- enter a grade for each student under the appropriate assignment
- enter a grade for each student under the appropriate assignment
- print the spreadsheet
- To print the entire spreadsheet on one page, fit the print area to 1 page wide by 1 page tall under File/Page Setup/Page/Scaling
Tardies
Students 10 to 39 minutes late for class receive a tardy. You are responsible for tracking tardies in your grades. Fifty points are deducted per tardy. A template for tracking tardies is included in the grading & tardy spreadsheet template, also linked above.
Attendance
When your students enter the classroom, they must sign the
attendance sheet provided by the XL office. Many instructors
also find it useful to carefully track their students' attendance. We've
provided a sample, optional Microsoft Excel attendance
spreadsheet for your convenience:

(to print the entire spreadsheet on one page, fit the print area to 1 page wide by 1 page tall under File/Page Setup/Page/Scaling) - place a one ( I ) in the appropriate box for the absent student
- change the line to a T if the student arrives tardy
(this system allows you to easily change absences into tardies when students enter the classroom after you've taken attendance) - if you want the spreadsheet to auto-calculate absences, enter a one ( I ) for each absence and a 0.5 for each tardy.
