Scholarship Award
Awards for the academic year are deposited for each of the long semesters. No summer scholarships are awarded. The scholarship committee determines the scholarship award amount. There are three unique student classifications for academic scholarships: entering freshman, transfer students, and returning students.
Entering Freshman:
- An entering freshman is defined as a student entering Petroleum Engineering with less than 12 credit hours towards a degree in Petroleum Engineering.
- SAT or ACT and “% in Class” or “Rank in Class” are the only considerations for scholarship awards. The highest of SAT or ACT and “% in Class” or “Rank in Class” are used to determine the scholarship amount.
- The freshman scholarship is awarded for the entire academic year with one-half (1/2) given at the beginning of each long semester as long as the freshman maintains scholarship eligibility. If a freshman enters Petroleum Engineering during the spring semester, the award is for the spring semester only, not a calendar year. All freshman applications are reevaluated at the end of the first semester for increases in scholarship money only based on returning student criteria. Second semester freshman scholarships cannot decrease.
Transfer Students:
- A transfer student is defined as a student entering Petroleum Engineering with 12 or more credit hours towards a degree in Petroleum Engineering.
- Cumulative GPA is the only criterion used to determine the scholarship amount.
- The transfer student scholarship award is given each long semester.
Returning Students:
- A returning student is defined as any student not considered as a freshman or transfer student as defined above.
- Cumulative GPA and the Last Semester GPA (Texas Tech University) are the criteria used to determine the scholarship amount.
- The returning student scholarship award is given each long semester.
Any student whose eligibility does not comply with the scholarship guidelines will be referred to the scholarship committee for final determination.
