Additional Group Term Life |
| |
Take advantage of the opportunity to get additional life insurance without showing proof of good health. Enroll during your first 31 days as a new employee.
During your first 31 days on the job, you can sign up for group term life insurance coverage worth one or two times your annual salary without proof of good health (ERS calls this “evidence of insurability,” or EOI.)
If you want life insurance coverage worth three or four times your salary at any time, you must go through the EOI process, and your acceptance is not guaranteed.
Your next opportunity to get additional life insurance – also called “supplemental life” – will be Summer Enrollment, and you will have to go through the EOI process regardless of the level of coverage you want.

Accidental Death and Dismemberment |
| |
Also called “Voluntary AD&D,” this benefit provides additional protection for you and your family in the event of accidental death and certain accidental injuries. No proof of good health (also referred to as evidence of insurability) is required to enroll.
If you are an active employee, you can enroll yourself and even your family members in voluntary AD&D coverage. You choose the amount of coverage - $10,000 to $200,000 – in increments of $5,000.
Upon accidental death (within 180 days of the accident), your benefit is paid at the full amount you chose. The benefit for your family members is paid at a percentage of the amount you chose
Upon accidental bodily injury, half of your Voluntary AD&D amount will be paid to you. If you have two or more bodily losses at the same time, the full amount of your coverage will be paid to you.

Dependent Group Term Life |
| |
Take advantage of the opportunity to get life insurance for your dependents without showing proof of good health. Sign them up during your first 31 days as a new employee.
As long as you are eligible for benefits under the Group Benefits Program (GBP), you have access to group term life insurance for your dependents. If you apply during your first 31 days on the job, no proof of good health (also called evidence of insurability, or EOI) is required.
The monthly premium is $1.38, and it covers all of the eligible dependents you enroll. The benefit pays you $5,000 if your dependent dies while you are employed. It also includes $5,000 of accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D) insurance for each dependent covered by the policy.
Upon accidental death (within 180 days of the accident), your benefit is paid at the full amount you chose. The benefit for your family members is paid at a percentage of the amount you chose
You have two other chances to sign up for dependent group term life insurance:
When you have a qualifying life event like marriage or birth, you can enroll your dependent with no EOI as long as you do so within 31 days of your life event.
OR
During Summer Enrollment, your dependents can apply through EOI. Acceptance is not guaranteed.
