How to create a Job Requisition

Hiring managers have the opportunity to create a requisition from two methods:

1. If you have created a requisition before in the system, it would be listed under “Create From a Previous Posting”.
2. You will usually create a requisition from a template. You can locate the appropriate template by the title or job code. If a template is not available for a specific job code, contact Personnel Compensation.

Take the following steps to create a requisition:

1. Login into your account at, http://jobs.texastech.edu/hr.
2. Select the route for the requisition; from a previous posting or from a template.
3.

From a previous posting, data is already entered, change the applicable information, i.e., last incumbent, department contact, telephone numbers, etc.

4.

When creating from a template, slide the bar on the drop down box until you locate the position title you want.

5. After identifying the position title, click on “Search” button to locate the template.
6. Position title will appear, click on “Create” button to bring up the template.
7.

Fill in the requisition with the appropriate data. Some fields are pre-determined and cannot be edited by the hiring managers. Fields identified with an asterisk (*) are required.

8.

Always click on “Continue to the next Section” button to proceed through the requisition. Other pages to the requisition consist of Posting Specific Questions, Points, Hiring Steps, Guest User, and Notes History.

9.

After completing the form, hiring managers have two options to dispense the requisition. Save without Submit or Department Approval (TTU). If Save without Submit is selected, it means the requisition is placed in the saved mode and managers may retrieve it later to complete it or make corrections prior to submitting. If Department Approval (TTU) is selected, it means the requisition is ready to be forwarded and reviewed by members in the approval process.

 Posting Specific Questions

These are individual screening questions that can qualify or disqualify applicants. Questions can display from the databank built into the system or managers can create their own specific job-related questions. Click here for sample job-specific pre-interview questions.

 Points

The system will allow hiring managers to assign points to closed-ended questions. This tool allows managers to utilize a point system connected to a question to weigh the appropriate responses. The purpose of this tool is to help managers rank the top applicants over the ones who slightly meet the criteria.

 Hiring Steps

Hiring managers can track the flow of applicants. It allows managers to change an applicant’s status from “Referred to Department to Interviewed, Hired, or Not Selected”

 Guest User

When the requisition is created, hiring managers may set up a special account for search committee members and/or key staff to view applications. This tool only allows these members to view applications and make a decision. Members may not take any action on a particular application. When a requisition is received by the Employment Office and the Guest User Account has not been activated by the hiring manager, the position will be posted without a Guest User name and password. The Employment Office has the capability to activate the Guest User Account after the position is opened, upon request from the hiring manager.
