Planning and conducting the interview

Before you schedule interview appointments you should decide:

-

Are you going to use a panel? Is every member of the panel going to be available for every interview?

-

Remember that all panel members must be present for each interview and keep detailed notes. This is to the benefit of the university, the department and to you. Your panel should also be aware of diversity issues.

-

Will you allow applicants to review the interview questions before the interview begins? (If so, inform the applicant of the need to arrive at least fifteen (15) minutes early).

-

Where will you instruct your applicants to go? (This is important if the interview venue is different from the actual location of your office).

- How far apart will you set the interview times?
- Will you be asking the applicant to provide you with a list of references?

All these decisions should be made prior to setting up the interview appointments. This will help you better inform the candidate of what is to be expected in the interview, so that they can prepare also.

Interview questions should be developed prior to the interview. The applicants should be asked the same questions. Sample Interview Questions.
