Program Overview

Personal Financial Planning students utilize new technologies in studying business practices such as family economic analysis and investments, retirement, insurance, and estate planning. If you choose to specialize in Personal Financial Planning, you will take courses in family finance, accounting finance, economics, mathematics, sociology, family relations, and management.

You will study economic and social influences on the family and the principles and practices of family financial management. Having explored the underlying causes of financial problems, you will develop counseling skills for helping people change their money management practices.

Because the role of computers in financial planning is considered so very important, your education will stress the use of relevant, state-of-the-art software. The College has a top-rated computer learning lab where you can explore the latest in money management technologies!

You will gain valuable practical experience through supervised internships in banks, savings and loan associations, counseling agencies, brokerage firms, insurance companies, and other financial and business institutions, These settings will give you the opportunity to utilize your people and financial skills. Your studies will prepare you to take the CFP® certification examination and important step in establishing your credentials.

The program registered with CFP Board is the most respected professional certification in the financial services industry. CFP® certification identifies an individual who has completed the education, certification examination, and other professional requirements of the CFP®.

Graduates are employed as financial planners, Extension agents, and consultants or counselors in financial, social, educational, legal, and government agencies.
