Curriculum Vita

Nelson Dometrius is Professor and past Chair of the Department of Political Science at Texas Tech University, and is currently the department's Director of Graduate Studies. Dr. Dometrius received his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill in 1979 and joined the Texas Tech faculty in 1978. His areas of specialization include Methodology and American politics with an emphasis on comparative state politics and the American governorship. He has published two books Social Statistics with SPSS and Politics & Policy: United States and Texas (ed., with Somma). His articles have appeared in American Journal of Political Science, American Politics Quarterly, Congress & the Presidency, Economics of Education Review, Journal of Politics, PS: Political Science and Politics, Public Administration Review, Social Science Quarterly, State Government, State Politics and Policy Quarterly, Texas Journal of Political Studies, and the Western Political Quarterly (Political Research Quarterly). He currently serves on the editorial boards of The Journal of Politics and Texas Journal of Political Studies. As a dedicated number cruncher, he happily plays the role of random enzyme, attaching himself to any research project of interest regardless of substantive focus. He teaches undergraduate courses on American politics, research methodology, and administrative process. He teaches graduate courses on research design, data analysis, advanced data analysis, and the executive.
