When can I make an appointment for advising and registration?

Dr. Rugeley will be advising and registering students for Fall 2009 starting on April 1st.  Please email Dr. Rugeley to make an appointment if necessary.  See information below to determine if you need to make an appointment.  Please remember that the MPA office does all of the registration for MPA courses.

Do I need to make an appointment?

  • New students (Fall 09) must make an appointment. Please complete the top portion of the curriculum tracking form.  Please complete the contact information on the sheet and bring the form to the advising session. If you reside outside the Lubbock area, we can make a phone appointment for advising and registration. Please call or email to make an appointment.
  • Students who have completed less than 18 hours must make an appointment. The Graduate School requires that all students submit a degree plan before you complete 18 hours. If you have not completed a Degree Plan, then complete the "Degree Plan" form to the best of your ability. Refer to the graduate handbook to determine the courses you will need to complete the degree plan and write them on the form. This form must be filed in your first semester of the program, but it can be changed later and most students amend the degree plan prior to graduation.
  • Students who have completed 18 hours or more in the program are encouraged to make an appointment, but are not required to make an appointment. I would encourage you to make an appointment if you have any questions about your program or internship. If you have no questions, you can submit the courses you would like to take via email to me; I will review them to make sure that you are on track to graduate on-time as per your degree plan. If you have any doubts or questions, please make an appointment.

What about internship hours?

Students can complete the work for internships at any time after they have completed an internship abstract that the program director approves. Completing internships hours (PUAD 5347) in the Spring/Summer has a prerequisite of attending the Fall colloquium. If you did not attend the Fall colloquium, then you are not eligible to enroll in PUAD 5347 this Spring/Summer. You can enroll in these courses in future semesters (Fall 08/Spring 09). In regard to summer session internship hours, students may enroll in PUAD 5347-001 in Summer 1 only and PUAD 5347-002 in Summer 2 only. All internship hours are open in Fall 08.

I don't see a class that I need...?

Generally, this is a rare problem. We schedule courses for a two year program for full-time students that begins in Fall of year one and ends in Spring of year 2. A part-time student taking 6 hours a semester can complete the program in three years. This is a requirement for our accreditation. Finishing early is very unusual because of this constraint. Similarly, the joint MPA/JD is designed to be completed in four years, the joint MPA/Econ degree is designed to be completed in three years.

Why can't Era register me ?

Holds are the number one reason why students cannot be registered. Check your library fines, parking tickets and immunization records before making an appointment.
