Learning Outcomes

The course objective will familiarize students with the anatomy of domestic animals.  At the end of the semester, students should be able to:

  • Understand anatomical terminology
  • Understand by sight and name:
    • Muscles
    • Bones
    • Organs
    • Arteries
    • Veins
    • Nerves

Methods of Assessing Outcomes

Student learning will be assessed by quizzes, examinations and laboratory practical exams.  Student active learning and participation in laboratories will be assessed.

ADA STATEMENT:

Any student who, because of a disability, may require special arrangements in order to meet course requirements should contact the instructor as soon as possible to make any necessary accommodations.  Students should present appropriate verification from Student Disability Services (AccessTECH).  No requirement exists that accommodations be made prior to completion of this approved university procedure.  Classroom accommodations will be made for students with disabilities at the request of the student.

SCHOLASTIC DISHONESTY:

It is the aim of the faculty of Texas Tech University to foster a spirit of complete honesty and high standards of integrity. The attempt of students to present as their own any work not honestly performed is regarded by the faculty and administration as a most serious offence and renders the offenders liable to serious consequences, possibly suspension.

Scholastic dishonesty includes but is not limited to, cheating, plagiarism, collusion, falsifying academic records, misinterpreting facts, and any act designed to give unfair academic advantage to the student or the attempt to commit such an act. Further information can be found in the Student Handbook.

ABSENCE FOR OBSERVANCE OF RELIGIOUS HOLIDAY:

A student who intends to observe a religious holy day should make that intention known to the instructor prior to the absence. A student who is absent from classes for the observance of a religious holiday shall be allowed to take an examination or complete an assignment within a reasonable time after the absence. A student may not be penalized for the absence but the instructor may respond appropriately if the student fails to complete the assignment satisfactorily.

Course Format

Students will attend a 3-hour laboratory each week.  The class will begin with a lecture and instructions to students.  Student dissections and learning from models will take place. Students will have homework, reading assignments and problems to solve.  Students are expected to spend time in the Anatomy laboratory working with models and tissues as a method of learning.  In-laboratory, out-of-class learning is critical to learning Anatomy.
