My name is Derek McGlone.  I'm married to Anne and I work for Electronics firm Plexus as a non wets operator. I started learning the chanter from the age of ten with the Hawick Royal British Legion, I then joined the Hawick pipe band. After a lengthy absence of 20 years I rejoined the band 4 years ago and I haven't looked back since.

·         Grade 1 band members who look down their noses at you. 

·         Hearing some of our band members liken our pipe Major to that wee banjo player in the film deliverance

·         Getting the blame for Archies blooters

Bairns that don't practise

I like to think of myself as a person who has a lot of patience and never gets ratty with the P/M on band trips, furthermore I wish some of our band members would stop ridiculing our young piper from Germany Herr Furterfingers, Frank is his first name, as he is trying his best so lay off boys .One of my favourite trips with band was the one to China with Cammy Ming and Dick. I also very much enjoyed the trips away with the Stow band to Spain. I'll finish by wishing Hawick Pipe Band all the best for the forthcoming competition season in the hoping that we'll get some decent results.
