Preparing a Graphics File for Printing
At University Printing Services, the Graphic Design Department has the ability to handle electronic files created by a variety of word processing, database and art and layout design programs. We use the latest technology and most current software applications to insure the finest electronic prepress production techniques available. Our Designers utilize both PC and Macintosh computers to prepare and output graphics files. The most commonly used graphics programs are:
- Adobe Illustrator
- Adobe Photoshop
- Adobe InDesign
- PageMaker
- QuarkXPress
- Publisher 2002
- Word (text files)
Accepted file formats are TIFF, JPG and EPS. Photo resolution should be 300 dpi. Photos downloaded from the internet will have very low resolution and poor print quality.
We recommend that you provide “postscript” electronic files whenever possible since they are in a format that is more easily read and used in the printing process. Files submitted in other formats may be used by recreating them in another format at an additional cost. We cannot use files created in Word Perfect.
