Gerry Beyer

Texas Tech University is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Gerry Beyer to the School of Law.  He will be the Governor Preston Smith Professor of Law and begin his duties in June. 

Beyer earned a B.A. summa cum laude from Eastern Michigan University.  He received a J.D. summa cum laude from Ohio State University.  His LL.M. and J.S.D. were from the University of Illinois.

Beyer was in private practice in Columbus, Ohio and an Instructor of Law at the University of Illinois.  He was Assistant, Associate and Professor of Law at St. Mary’s University, during which time he also was a Visiting Professor of Law at Santa Clara University School of Law, Southern Methodist University School of Law, the University of New Mexico School of Law, and Boston College Law School.

Among the many honors he has been awarded were the Galloway Professor of the Year Award at Santa Clara University, the Probate & Property Excellence in Writing Award, the Student Bar Association Professor of the Year Award at St. Mary’s (twice), Most Outstanding Professor Overall Award—Tarlton Inn of Phi Delta Phi, and the Order of the Coif.  He is an active member of the US Supreme Court Bar, the US Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces Bar, and the State Bar of Texas.  He has many books, articles, CLE materials, and other publications to his credit.
