Affirmative Action Committee
Charge:
The Affirmative Action Committee has as its basic charge to assure uniformity and consistency in the implementation of the University affirmative action program. It monitors the trends and results of the program, offers advice and recommendations to appropriate officials concerning the program. It assesses and interprets the needs of the campus community for affirmative action and recommends programs and activities to meet those needs.
Membership:
- One representative of the Office of the Chancellor
- One representative of the Office of the President
- One representative of the Office of the Provost
- One representative of Vice President for Student Affairs
- One representative of Director of University News and Publications
- One representative of Vice President for Fiscal Affairs
- One representative of the Faculty Senate
- One representative from each of the Colleges
- One representative from the School of Law
- One representative from the Graduate School
- One representative from the University Library
- One representative from the Women's Studies Council
- The Affirmative Action Officer, ex-officio
Appointment:
Representatives will be designated by the individual in charge of the areas represented above. Each of the officers should give consideration to the selection of persons from EEO/AA affected groups. Appointments are for an annual term.
Operating Procedures:
The affirmative action officer shall call the first meeting of the year by October 1, at which time the committee shall elect its officers. The Committee shall develop its own operating procedures subject to approval by the Provost. The Committee shall provide copies of all minutes, reports and recommendations to the President, the Provost, the Faculty Senate and the University Library.
In reviewing and recommending programs for Affirmative Action, the Committee will address the broad issues of Affirmative Action and will not attempt to resolve individual grievances. The Committee may review departmental programs, concentrating upon results achieved, broad patterns, and policy and procedures. To foster open communication, reviews with department heads will not be held in public sessions unless requested by the department head.
Officers:
The Committee shall elect by majority votes its chairperson, secretary and such other officers as it requires for efficient and proper functioning.
